I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW AWESOME THE LAST EPISODE WAS!
You best believe it! Derpy Hooves, one of the biggest background characters, is now canon. Now, for a while they had started sticking her in random places, sort of like a Where's Waldo thing, only with Derpy. Faust had also said that her name was Derpy Hooves. Though without her ever actually being talked to or referred to, we had no way of knowing...Until The Last Roundup.
Derpy Hooves, the Ponyville Klutz. She actually got quite a few lines of dialogue, talking directly to Rainbow Dash right after the opening. Rainbow called her "Derpy." Whether this is her true name or simply a nickname we don't know, since there are some bronies out there who prefer Ditzy Doo to Derpy Hooves. For those of you wondering about my opinion on this, I am excited that Derpy not only gets her own voice, but got her own scene and dialogue. This was something none of the bronies will ever forget, and I hope with all my heart that Derpy gets more lines in the future.
Now for the episode. The episode was by far one of the best this season, going back to friendship. Applejack tosses her hat in the air and herself in the ring as she goes to the rodeo in Canterlot, hoping to win and bring the prize money back to fix the town hall (which apparently Derpy destroyed.) After some time, Applejack does not return, and instead sends a postcard saying she won't be returning to Ponyville and that she'd send the money later. Well the mane six did not like the fact that their Applejack was not coming back, so they set off for Canterlot, trying to find her.
Eventually, they find her in a small junction working at a cherry farm. Applejack was reluctant to tell her friends her story, so she avoided every time they asked. Eventually, they find out that Applejack did not win first place in her rodeo, and therefore did not get the money Mayor Mare wanted to fix town hall. She went to work at the cherry farm to raise money for town hall, even if it meant having to stay away from her friends, because she could not face them as a failure and go back on her word. Her friends (minus Pinkie Pie and Rarity) crowded around her and cheered her up, saying that even if she did not come in first place, she was still number one in their books.
All in all, this was a great episode. They finally got back to the issue of friendship, which they had been forgetting with the recent episodes. I hope that next week's episode is just as good, though in my opinion it will be pretty hard to beat this.
